We’re Excited You Want to Join Us on the Summer Camp Professionals Circle!
Please read through these guidelines before you finalize your registration.
Community Standards
In Summer Camp Professionals, we foster a community that welcomes marginalized genders, queer folks, people of colour, and people with disabilities. We actively work to make this space as socially and financially accessible as possible and to cultivate a culture of respect, support, and openness.
Respect
We value people over programs. We learn and use people's pronouns. We honour the discussion of group safety.
We look for enthusiastic consent. We ask before highlighting another camp's program (to illustrate a point). We apologize and change our behaviour when we transgress.
We care about health and well-being. We encourage each other to get rest, have hobbies that aren't camp and have small, supportive groups of friends that understand this lifestyle.
Support
We celebrate new Camp Pros. We take time to teach what we know, invite questions, and offer help.
We invest in our community. Donations go to the Camp Mavericks Training Fund (*currently in development. Any US-based non-profits interested in helping us with some logistics?), which allows people from marginalized identities to afford their Camp Pros annual subscription AND other professional development events and conferences.
We hold space for one another. We communicate with patience and create opportunities for everyone to participate.
We work to meet every Camp Pros' needs. Within this online community space, we will encourage all members to post videos only with captions/subtitles and to describe any images we post.
Openness
We welcome folks to the discussion. We pull up the metaphorical chair. We invite others into our conversations and catch them up. We (kindly) point them to previous talks that may answer their current question.
We practice compassion. We’re mindful of our effect on others. We honour boundaries and use them to inform our choices.
We’re good to ourselves. We watch out to get enough sleep, food, and water. We take breaks when we need them.
Please let us know if you find a place where we are falling short. This is ongoing work based on 12 years of moderating the Facebook Group, and we’re committed to improving year after year.
ALWAYS use the search function before posting a new question.
The online gathering of Camp Pros is 14 years old, and many of the most common questions have been very thoughtfully answered already.
-> Vendors
You are welcome here. Please join in the discussion and focus on helping the #CampPros.
Selling your product before becoming a true, contributing member of the community WILL GET YOU BANNED.
What does “contributing” look like?
Regularly answering members’ questions without promoting your product/service.
Posing questions that all Camp Pros may have or adding links or resources that are useful to the majority of members.
When can you share your service/product?
If your service is a DIRECT answer to a question that someone has posed in the Group you may answer their general question, then explain why your company could help and ask if they would like you to contact them.
This includes posting about paid webinars and training events in the “main” discussion section. You are welcome to add these trainings to the Events section of the site.
What about free educational webinars?
Also in the Events section, please.
Be Intentional
Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things such as race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated.
