Buying a Camp - with Dan Zenkel - The Camp Owners Podcast #30
An investment that changes lives…especially yours!
Kelly & Howie welcome Dan Zenkel to the show to discuss buying a camp and the things any of us should be thinking about in making this big investment.
Dan wears and has worn a number of hats in the camping world. He is currently the owner of the Berskhire Soccer Academy in Otis, Massachusetts. He is a partner in The Camp Professionals, which helps folks buy and sell camps, and he is an advisor to North American Camp Trust, a not-for-profit that purchases for-profit camps and turns them into not-for-profits.
In 1997, Dan co-founded CampGroup, and served as its CEO until 2009. During his time at CampGroup, he spearheaded the acquisition and start-up of 12 summer camps, and, since then he has purchased two camps on his own and has assisted or advised on the purchase and sale of approximately 20 more throughout the country. He comes with a wealth of experience and insight on the topic of buying camps.

What Inspires You?
Things that inspire our hosts and guests to be the best Camp Owners they can be.
Kelly: Amy Poehler’s Book - Yes, Please - “I just love bossy women. I could be around them all day. To me, bossy is not a pejorative term at all. It means somebody's passionate and engaged and ambitious and doesn't mind leading.”
Howie: Launching early registration and having staff apply and share why they want to come back and work at camp.
Dan: Two Books - Good to Great by Jim Collins & The Man I Knew The Amazing Story of George H. W. Bush's Post-Presidency by Jean Becker
